Ciaotou District Prosecutors Office Investigates Alleged Violations of the National Security Act Involving a Television Anchor/Reporter; Court Approves Detention Without Visitation of Reporter Lin and Five Active or Retired Military Personnel
Chief Prosecutor Chen Chu-Chun and Prosecutor Chou Wei-Chih of the Ciaotou District Prosecutors Office are directing an investigation into alleged violations of the National Security Act, the Anti-Corruption Act, and offenses involving the unlawful disclosure of classified information under the Criminal Code by active-duty and retired military personnel.
The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the Taoyuan City Investigation Office and the Kaohsiung City Investigation Office of the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau, the Military Security General Division of the Ministry of National Defense, and the Kaohsiung Gendarmerie Unit of the Military Police Command.
On January 16, 2026, search operations were carried out targeting one television reporter and nine active-duty or retired military personnel. Following questioning, it was determined that a male reporter surnamed Lin is suspected of having provided payments ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of New Taiwan Dollars to active-duty military personnel, who allegedly delivered military-related information to individuals from mainland China.
After interrogation by Prosecutor Chou Wei-Chih, applications were filed for detention without visitation of reporter Lin and five active-duty or retired military personnel. The Ciaotou District Court approved the applications and ordered detention without visitation for all six individuals.
