On August 1, 2025, the Ciaotou District Prosecutors Office received a report from the Liugui Precinct of the Kaohsiung City Police Department regarding the death of a woman surnamed Pan. According to the investigation, on July 30, 2025, at 9:28 p.m., a man surnamed Li was driving a private vehicle carrying five people in total: his wife (Ms. Wu), his son, his daughter, and another daughter surnamed Pan. While driving along the 81.1-kilometer mark of Provincial Highway 20 in Taoyuan District, Kaohsiung City, the vehicle plunged into a ravine due to the roadbed collapse caused by heavy rainfall.
On August 1, 2025, Prosecutor Hsu Ya-Wen, accompanied by a forensic pathologist, conducted a post-mortem examination of a female body at the Kaohsiung City Mortuary. DNA samples were collected and submitted for analysis to confirm the identity. The cause of death will be determined before issuing the official autopsy certificate to the family.
Due to the severe rainfall and disaster conditions in the mountainous areas of Taoyuan District, officers from the Liugui Precinct and rescue personnel from the Baolai Fire Brigade were dispatched to the 81.1-kilometer mark of Provincial Highway 20 to conduct search and rescue operations, establish a cordon, and control traffic at the scene. Further action will be taken by the prosecutor following the results of the search and rescue operations.
